The ML50 Round Tube Finishing Machine was recently tested for an application in the bathroom fixture industry, specifically for producing high-quality, polished surfaces on curved stainless-steel tubes used to manufacture premium faucets, showerheads, towel racks, and other bathroom accessories. This process ensures a uniform, scratch-free, and corrosion-resistant finish that enhances both aesthetics and durability.
To
determine the optimal polishing method, we conducted three different test
procedures using Trizact™ 3M™ 237AA abrasive belts, which utilize advanced
microreplication technology for consistent material removal and surface
refinement.
Testing Process:
- 1st Tube: Three passes on the ML50 using
progressively finer abrasive belts:
- First pass: Trizact 237AA grade A30 for initial refinement
- Second pass: Trizact 237AA
grade A16 for intermediate polishing
- Third pass: Trizact 237AA grade A6 for final smooth polishing
- Each pass took approximately
70-90 seconds.
- 2nd Tube: Three passes with two
different abrasive belts:
- First and second pass: Trizact
237AA grade A16 for material removal and refinement
- Third pass: Trizact 237AA grade A6 for a final, high-gloss polish
- Each pass also took around
70-90 seconds.
- 3rd Tube: Three passes using the same
fine grit:
- Trizact 237AA grade A6 for all
three passes, ensuring a delicate and uniform polish.
The test
was conducted using curved stainless-steel tubes similar to faucet designs. The
ML50’s planetary system ensures full 360-degree surface contact with the
rotating abrasive belts, producing a smooth and consistent polish even on
complex curves.
Results:
Among the
three tests, the second test provided the best results, achieving a fine and
uniform polished surface with minimal deformation, reduced heat buildup, and no
visible discoloration. The combination of Trizact 237AA A16 and A6 enabled
efficient material removal followed by an advanced polishing stage, making it
the ideal sequence for achieving a flawless finish on high-end bathroom
components.
